UNHCR is the sector lead shelter/NFI agency in Sri Lanka that supports the Government to respond to the displacement and resettlement needs in partnership with other humanitarian agencies dealing with shelter/NFI.

Beyond survival, shelter is necessary to provide security and personal safety, protection from the elements and enhanced resistance to ill health and disease. Shelter is a basic human right and is also an important element to protect human dignity and to sustain family and community life as far as possible even in difficult circumstances.The Provision of NFI kits, assist IDPs and returnees to establish their basic needs/rights in hand with the shelter assistance provided.
