Thematic Groups

The Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on Disaster Preparedness provides a forum for regional organisations - international NGOs, the Red Cross and UN Agencies - to enhance information exchange and regional coordination in order to respond to emergencies in a cost and time-efficient manner.

The increased collaboration between partner organisations, fostered by the IAWG, recognises that the efforts of individual organisations can and should complement each other in emergency response. Improve the effectiveness of the humanitarian health and nutrition response to the food crisis in the Horn of Africa by sharing best practices out of the on-going countries experiences and developing common strategic approaches and interventions framework to identify vulnerable groups, and deliver the appropriate preventive and response interventions.

Objective:
Day one:

1. Present the IPC and communicate its intended purpose for the NGO decision-makers – with particular focus on linking analysis and appropriate and proportionate responses.

 

Day two:

1. Strengthen NGO capacity and explore practical issues related to the use of the IPC for situation analysis and decision-making.

2. Increase analytical awareness amongst NGO food security practitioners and explore ways of improved coordination and sharing of food security information across the countries.
