IASC Subsidiary Bodies

The IASC Subsidiary Bodies assist in developing policy or operational guidelines for humanitarian assistance. They also serve as an interface with rehabilitation and developmental processes.

Usually IASC Subsidiary Bodies focus on a particular policy issue but can at times also be created for large-scale emergencies.

Broadly, there are three types of IASC Subsidiary Bodies:

  • Sub-Working Groups and Contact Groups are bodies with unlimited duration, dedicated to long and medium-term policy issues in humanitarian assistance.

  • Task Forces are bodies with a limited duration and the objective to complete specific tasks.

  • Situation specific Task Forces are established for large-scale emergencies to facilitate inter-agency coordination.
